Whoever said red and green are just Christmas colors is out of their mind! What better to compliment a big pile of hot boiled cajun crawfish than green St. Patty’s Day beer!
St. Patrick’s Day, as most people know, began in Ireland over a thousand years ago as a way to celebrate Saint Patrick himself. There aren’t many surviving details about the man, but he defiantly left his mark! The actual tradition began upon his death on March 17 and was celebrated as a religious holiday. Even though this holiday falls within the season of lent, it was all about the festivities! Everyone was given a “pardon” from lent on St. Patrick’s Day and was given the right to eat meat, dance, drink, and feast…. Sounds similar to Mardi Gras, right?
If anyone is looking for a great cajun way to celebrate this St. Patty’s Day, you can always get some cajun crawfish and make your own green beer at home! All you need is two ingredients: beer and green food coloring. Put only ONE drop of food coloring into your glass, pour your beer and voila! If you have a light beer, it will turn the entire beer green; a darker colored beer will make the color more visible on the top, near the foam! Hope y’all have a safe and fun St. Patrick’s Day!
